High School Football In Texas

Football

Are You A True Texan?

FootballIf you live in Texas and do not love high school football, then I am not sure if you can really call yourself a Texan.  It is that time of year again when we can go out and hear the banging of the helmets, the chatter of the crowd, and the smell of hot dog and hamburger concessions.  There is soon to be some brisk or rainy nights ahead, which makes the experience all the more fun.  I am probably more excited about it than the kids out on the field playing.  High school football in Texas is a staple to Friday night living.

Last night I volunteered with my friend Mark to hand out programs, flyers, and small freebies as people enter the gates of the stadium.  Mark is a Dallas home inspector and has an ad for his company, Dallas Home Inspector Co, listed in the program  so he was super motivated to get out and volunteer.  I was super motivated because I love football, hot dogs, the atmosphere, and also the free$7 ticket was pretty motivating as well.  lol   I know I am cheap labor, and the thought of saving a few bucks gets me going.  The thought of serving others gets me going even more.   I know this is silly, but I do think of this as a way of serving.   I am helping my friend Mark promote his business, I am helping to greet the fans as they pour into the stadium.  Simply showing support for the team is a way of serving.   I only mention this not to toot my own horn, but to demonstrate that there are so many ways to serve others.

The Concessions

So I am pretty stinking excited about this, but while I was there last night, I signed up to help out next week with the concessions.   I watched as the group last night were working the concessions and they were having such a great time.  It didn’t seem like work at all due to the amount of fun they were having together.  I am not sure which job I will get, but it seems there are a few to choose from.

  • Hot DogsBurger flipper
  • Hot dog maker
  • Popcorn maker
  • Handing out drinks
  • Candy
  • Cashier
  • Order Taker/Runner

They have this process down to a science.  They have specific people working each station, a few people taking orders and going to each station to gather what they need to fulfill the orders.   It seemed to work like a well oiled machine.  I guess we will find out next week if it works as well as it appeared from afar.  I honestly hope I get to be one of the order takers because I think they had the most interaction with the peeps, but I will be happy working any of the stations quite honestly.

The Scores For The Night

If you missed the game, or if you simply like to follow a few of your most favorite high school teams, you can look here to find scores from different games this past week.  Check back and I will try to update these weekly if I have time.  Or you can simply do a google search for high school football scores to find out how well your team did for each week.

The Predictions For The Year

Are you into predicting and betting?  Below is a pretty nice video outlining some predictions for the year.  Hedge your bets and see if you agree with these predictions for the upcoming year.  Of course these are simply the predictions of one.  I am sure if you talk to ten different people you will get ten different predictions.   We all love our teams, and all love to voice our opinion as to what we think will happen next.

Good luck to all teams we play this year.  You will have a tough row to hoe, because we have a pretty good team this year and the season is looking bright.   Be safe everyone.
